A call for LIFE Preparatory projects to support deployment of European Solidarity Corps (sub-programme for Environment) is now open. This call embodies a joint initiative of the European Programme for the Environment and Climate Action (LIFE) and the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD) aimed at concretely exploring the potential of using volunteer work for environmental protection activities.

In September 2016 the European Commission proposed the set up of European Solidarity Corps (ESC), which will contribute to strengthening the Union’s capacity to provide voluntary service for young people throughout the European Union. Young people under 30 across the EU will get a chance to volunteer where help is most needed. Members of ESC will be involved in all sorts of activities, e.g. to respond to crisis situations, like the refugee crisis or the recent earthquakes in Italy.

Now also LIFE programme is taking part in deployment of ESC. On 7th December 2016 LIFE programme published a call for LIFE Preparatory Projects for the European Solidarity Corps. The scope of supported activities – to last between 2 and 12 months – will be environmental protection, nature conservation and restoration of natural areas and ecosystems, mainly the Natura 2000 network.

For funds may apply public bodies, private commercial organisations and private non-commercial organisations (including NGOs). The call will close on 7th March 2017.
