From now on birdwatching on Lake Ptuj is much easier, since there is a new observation tower available for visitors. The tower is a result of LIFE project LIVEDRAVA.

The official opening of the tower took place last Friday, 14th October 2016, on the right bank of Lake Ptuj. At the opening ceremony participated also Minister of the Environment and Spatial Planning Irena Majcen who addressed the guests. The Ministry of the Environment and Spatial Planning is a co-financier of the project LIVEDRAVA – Restoration of river ecosystem lowland part of the Drava River in Slovenia, which is through the LIFE programme financially supported also by European Commission. The main objective of the project is to preserve endangered species and their habitats along the Drava River by performing concrete nature conservation work, research and education activities. For this purpose, they carried out a number of activities in the project area, among which was also setting up an ornithological observation tower.

Bird observation tower was set up by project partners DOPPS – BirdLife Slovenia and Municipality Ptuj. It was designed by Ravnikar Potokar architectural bureau Ltd., while construction work was done by Komunalno podjetje Ptuj d.d. Both project partners consider the newly built observation tower as an important contribution not only to touristic and educational offer but also to the general development of the municipality. The tower enables excellent learning and bird watching also for unexperienced birdwatchers, since it has installed determination and information boards about bird life on Lake Ptuj.
